Amoxicillin powder or co-amoxiclav (that is amoxicillin with potassium clavulanate) powder for oral suspension is used to treat a series of bacterial infections. These infections include infections of the genitourinary tract, lower respiratory tract, ear, nose, throat and the infections associated with the skin.

For Genitourinary Infections

To treat genitourinary infections, co-amoxiclav suspension or amoxicillin suspension drops, Amoxil tablets or capsules are prescribed. These are suggested only when the infection due to susceptible (ONLY 饾泝-lactamase-negative) isolates of proteus mirabilis, Escherichia coli, or Enterococcus faecalis.

For ENT Infections

Amoxicillin chewable tablets, amoxicillin capsules and amoxicillin suspension drops are prescribed to treat infections caused by susceptible (ONLY 饾泝-lactamase-negative ) isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae, streptococcus species (饾澃 and 饾泝 hemolytic isolates only), staphylococcus Streptococcus species or Haemophilus influenzae,

For lower respiratory tract infections

If a patient is indicated with lower respiratory tract infection caused due to susceptible (ONLY 饾泝-lactamase-negative) isolates of S. pneumoniae, Streptococcus spp (饾澃 and 饾泝 hemolytic isolates only), H. influenzae or Staphylococcus ssp., amoxicillin suspension, amoxicillin capsules and amoxicillin tablets (chewable) are suggested for the treatment.

For Infections associated with the skin

If the infection of the skin or skin structures are due to the indications of susceptible (ONLY 饾泝-lactamase-negative) isolates of Streptococcus spp. (饾澃 and 饾泝 hemolytic isolates only), E. coli. or Staphylococcus spp., amoxicillin suspension drops are given for treatment.

What is Oral Suspension Used for?

The oral suspension is mainly a liquid vehicle that carries undissolved particles of a single or more medicinal agent. This entire suspension drop or liquid is then taken for oral administration of amoxicillin powder or co-amoxiclav powder or oral suspension.

The drug is available by pharma manufacturers in India to treat several strongly suspected bacterial infections including pneumonia. The pharmaceutical drug for oral suspension helps to decrease the growth of drug resisting bacterias using oral administration. Amoxil is often indicated for a diagnosed or strongly suspected bacterial infection treatment along with other antibacterial drugs like potassium clavulanate. This combination helps to keep the effect of Amoxil intact.

How do you use oral suspension powder?

It is very important to measure oral consumption while taking a dose. Shake the suspension bottle well before using. Measure the dose using a medical measuring device. Prevent using a normal spoon used for household applications, since it might vary from the recommended dosage.

The dosage consumption may be asked to add to another formula of medicine or with milk, water or other liquid beverages supporting the course of action. For effective results, pharmaceutical formulation companies in India suggest you mix the oral suspension powder right before you drink. Mixing, storing and then drinking is prohibited for antibiotics like Amoxil since it reduces the effectiveness of the medicine. Also, it is advisable to drink the entire mixture for complete effectiveness. However, during the span of time, while you are under the medical course, you can drink plenty of fluids.

Use the medication before or after the consumption of food as suggested by the doctor. Keep at least 8-12 hours between dosages. Note that the dosage may vary according to the type of infection you have, its severity level and how your body responds to the treatment.
